In a unique collaboration, SKAI, ARTiSTORY, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, have come together to present a high tea experience inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's iconic art. This event, titled "Gathering of The Greats, A Wave from The East," blends culinary delights with artistic masterpieces.
SKAI's goal in this project is to offer guests an immersive dining experience that combines fine cuisine with the rich cultural heritage of Japanese art. By transforming their venue and incorporating Hokusai's artwork, SKAI aims to create a memorable and educational experience for all visitors.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, plays a crucial role in this collaboration by providing access to Hokusai's celebrated works. Their partnership ensures the authenticity and historical accuracy of the art presented, enriching the overall experience for guests.
The centerpiece of this high tea experience is Katsushika Hokusai's renowned woodblock print series, "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji." Among these, "Under the Wave off Kanagawa" (commonly known as The Great Wave) and "Umezawa Manor in Sagami Province" are prominently featured. These masterpieces showcase Hokusai's intricate techniques and his ability to capture the beauty and power of nature.
The final product of this collaboration is a high tea experience available from 2 June to 1 July 2023 at SKAI, located on Level 70 of Swissôtel The Stamford. Guests can enjoy savory bites inspired by Hokusai's floral prints and exquisite desserts that draw inspiration from "Umezawa Manor in Sagami Province." The venue itself is adorned with Hokusai's art, including a stunning transformation of the lobby and foyer staircase to resemble "Under the Wave off Kanagawa," providing unique photo opportunities and a deeper appreciation for Hokusai's work.
