Take Flight with Audubon
Location-Based Experiences at Mandai Wildlife Reserve
The Challenge
ARTiSTORY and the Mandai Wildlife Group set out to create an innovative location-based experience that would bring historical ornithological art into a living wildlife setting. The challenge was to seamlessly blend Audubon's detailed scientific illustrations with real-world wildlife conservation efforts, crafting an educational journey that inspires visitors to appreciate both artistic heritage and contemporary environmental stewardship at one of Singapore's premier wildlife destinations.
Our Solution
ARTiSTORY launched "Take Flight with Audubon" on 19 May 2023, coinciding with the opening of the new Bird Paradise at Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The collaboration brought three installations to life: four hand-crafted paper birds depicting species found in Bird Paradise and previously painted by Audubon, displayed in large see-through eggs; "The Nest" – a painting-inspired installation featuring a giant bird's nest; and a 3D pop-up book installation inspired by The Birds of America. This immersive experience allowed visitors to encounter Audubon's masterpieces in the natural habitat context they were originally created to document.
